Ormond, VIC

Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery in Ormond on Thursday, 24 November 2016.

Investigators have been told an unknown man wearing a balaclava attended a jewellery store on Katandra Road about 1:40pm and confronted a staff member inside the store.

Police have been told the offender was armed with a firearm and made demands for a safe to be opened.

The victim refused and there has been altercation where it is believed the victim has been hit on the head with the firearm.

The victim then fled next door while the unknown man ransacked the shop.

A staff member from the store next door returned to the jewellery store and confronted the offender who was fleeing on foot.

The staff member chased the offender down the street armed with a broom.

The offender has then left the scene in a black Mazda 3 sedan travelling north along Katandra Road.

The jewellery store owner received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

No one else was injured in the incident.
