Young jeweller one step closer to international win
21st May 2019
A Sydney-based apprentice jeweller has been selected as one of fifteen elite 'Skillaroos' who will represent their respective trades at the 45th Worldskills International Championships scheduled to be held in Russia later this year.
Nathan Kettle, who recently completed his qualifications at the Enmore Design School, has described Worldskills is a great program for aspiring young jewellers looking to develop their confidence on the bench.
“To represent Australia in Kazan is an incredible opportunity, one that I could never have dreamed would happen. Competing at such a high level doing what I love has been an awesome experience and I’ve already taken away so much from it. Training in the lead up to Kazan has increased my skills dramatically and it is something I will carry on with me for the rest of my career” Kettle said.
The Skillaroos, aged between 19 and 22, will compete against the best apprentices and trainees from over sixty countries in the hope of becoming the World Champion of their field.
When asked about his goals going into the competition, Kettle said he simply planned on doing his best.
“I hope to achieve my best result so far to show my constant improvement through each run. A medal would be nice but I'm not focusing on winning, I plan on giving it my best shot and making Australia proud!”.
Worldskills is global social initiative which champions vocational skill across a range of industries including carpentry, plumbing, jewellery manufacture, and graphic design. Australia has been well represented at prior Worldkills championships with several Skillaroos taking home medals over last ten years.
