Iconic Melbourne retailer to auction off stock
Retailing for 165 years, Kozminsky, Melbourne's oldest jewellery store, is expected to sell off its stock in the largest single-owner jewellery auction in Australian history. Due to close the doors of the Bourke Street store on February 10, the vast collection of antique and vintage jewellery, contemporary pieces, and small decorative antiques will be sold by Leonard Joel auction house in early March.
Owner operator of Kozminsky, Kirsten Albrecht, has lamented the changes to the market over the last 20-30 years. She cites a lack of interest on behalf of the younger generation to embrace antique jewellery and collectables and of a lack of individuality in adornment.
The stock is estimated to fetch between $700,000 to $1.2 million when it goes to auction on March 4.
